10 Highest-Grossing Movies Of 2014 (So Far) - Ranked From Worst To Best

Summer blockbuster season is officially under way. Captain America: The Winter Soldier kicked things off in the first week of April and several major tent-pole releases have since landed in theaters, but things are really set to go into overdrive in the coming weeks. In the next six weeks alone Edge of Tomorrow, A Million Ways to Die in the West, Maleficent, 22 Jump Street, How to Train Your Dragon 2, Transformers: Age of Extinction and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes all arrive to saturate the marketplace and claim the hard-earned cash of cinema-goers everywhere. Before this coming onslaught of big-budget studio pictures, it seems like a good time to look back on the quality of the year's biggest earners so far and rank 2014's biggest hits from worst to best (grosses are accurate as of May 27th). I wrote an article back in January that set out to predict 2014's biggest box office successes and admittedly several of those predictions have been way off so far, while another article that looked at ten movies in danger of being the year's most notorious box office bombs remains largely up in the air for now. So far there have been several great blockbusters this year, and based on the upcoming slate of releases 2014 has the potential to be one of the best summers ever in terms of blockbuster entertainment. There's been a lot of buzz surrounding 2015 given the sheer number of huge movies being made, but there is the chance that a few more quality blockbusters over the next few months could position 2014 as the one to beat. Do you agree with the ranking of these movies? Have you managed to see all of them? How many of them do you think will still feature in the year's top ten by December 31? I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
