10 Highest Grossing Sci-Fi Films Of All Time (Adjusted For Inflation)

7. Star Wars: The Phantom Menace

E T BOX OFFICE
Lucasfilm

ADJUSTED FOR INFLATION: $1.8 billion

ORIGINAL BOX OFFICE: $1.027 billion

Surprise, surprise another Star Wars film managed to crack the top 10 highest grossing sci-fi films of all time. While The Phantom Menace may have suffered a backlash from critics at the time and more recently a reevaluation among some, it broke box office records at the time.

Smashing the record for largest single-day gross with $28 million on its opening day, a record previously held by The Lost World: Jurassic Park, The Phantom Menace defied expectations. Helped by the fact that audiences hungered for the return of Star Wars after The Return of the Jedi had faded out of cinemas 16 years prior, it managed to ultimately gross $1.8 billion (thanks also to a 3-D re-release).
