10 Highly Anticipated Movies That Just Aren't Happening

7. Terry Gilliam's The Man Who Killed Don Quixote

Don QuixoteDescription: In true Gilliam fashion, a modern man finds himself saddling up with a rather confused Don Quixote, who thinks he's his companion Sancho Panza. Also, it's a good chance that Don Quixote will die in the end, unless this is another one of those titles that misleads the audience like "John Dies At The End" or "Fun Size". Why It's Not Happening: Take your pick: natural disaster, illness, technical problems due to jet fighters flying overhead, and a leading man who eventually was so injured he had to bow out of the film he learned the English language to film. Of course, the most recent killshot is the fact that Johnny Depp, Gilliam's choice for said modern man, has signed on with a different Don Quixote project. Though, to be fair, he stopped being interested in even being in the film. Apparently The Lone Ranger was more his speed, seeing as his rival project is set up at Disney. The Last Word?: Before Johnny Depp threw water on the fire last December, Terry Gilliam was reported by The Playlist to be interested in doing the film after he'd completed another project. (Presumably this other project is the currently in production The Zero Theorem.) As of his last round of casting, back in 2010, Robert Duvall and Ewan McGregor were slated to play Don and Sancho. If You Really Want To See It...:...watch Lost in La Mancha, and see what it looks like when Fate doesn't want you to make a movie. Apparently Fate is good friends with Johnny Depp.
