7. Bound (1996)
Bound is a neo-noir film with Gina Gershon and Meg Tilly as two women who end up in a clandestine affair. Violet (Tilly) is desperate to escape her relationship with Mafia man Caesar and Corky (Gershon) is an ex-con who is working as a plumber and painter. They hatch a plan to steal $2 million from the Mafia. Lots of hard man shenanigans ensue and lots of Italian Americans shoot each other. Corky and Violet survive despite a close shave to walk off hand in hand in the sun. Doesn't sound terribly kinky, does it? But the film has to be seen to appreciate the hot lesbian sex between Tilly and Gershon. The film makers even went so far as to hire a sex educator, Susie Bright, to choreograph the sex scenes. They are so explicit, I remember hiring this film during my first year of uni and my female roommate and I were watching the film and we stopped the tape because all the lesbian-ness was too embarrassing for us both to sit through. The lesbian aspect of the movie overshadows everything else in it. It isn't exploitative, it is tastefully filmed. Too bad Tilly has the most freaking annoying voice in the universe - it's like listening to nails on a blackboard. But her voice does not take away from the lesbian kinkiness of Bound. Gershon is also an awesome butch lesbian.
