8. Spanking the Monkey (1994)
Spanking the Monkey is a pretty perverse, kinky little movie. Young Raymond has the world at his feet - a lovely girlfriend and he is to begin a medical internship very shortly. Unfortunately his mother Susan suffers a leg injury just as he is about to leave and just as her husband goes off in his job as a travelling salesman. It is left up to Raymond to look after her. He loses his internship and girlfriend and drifts into an incestuous relationship with his mother. Tackling the most taboo of subjects in a matter of fact way, Spanking the Monkey is a tale of alienation and manipulation. Raymond is alienated from almost everyone in his life, including his peers and his parents until he has to attend to his needy, demanding mother. She totally manipulates Raymond by being provocatively sexy and in effect, seduces her own son. The mother is a predator who could get the man next door sleeping with her after 5 minutes chat. Her and Raymond seem like they have never really related before prior to this set up - their dialogue is that of people who have just met. Perhaps this lack of mother-son intimacy facilitates the sexual closeness as they have no sacred bond to break. Anyway, incest is kinky but I wouldn't watch this one with your mother...
