8. Re-releasing The Phantom Menace in 3D
George Lucas is known for coming up with a million ways to milk the living hell out of a single movie. Some may see it as a series of business-savvy moves while others see it as exploitation of a fan base for fast cash. One of the most questionable decisions of recent time would have to be the decision to post-convert all 6 Star Wars films into 3D and re-release each one back into theaters.
Instead of starting with the original trilogy, however, George decided to go in Episode order, which meant fans would have to wait through Episodes I-III in order to get to the real movies that they would potentially like to see in 3D. So the first 3D Star Wars film released was The Phantom Menace, a film that many deem to be the worst of the entire series. Yes, that means fans were dazzled with in-your-face images of Jar Jar Binks and a whiny Anakin Skywalker for more than 2 hours.
Viewers knew what was up and largely avoided it, causing the box office earnings of the re-release to be very underwhelming. After Disney bought Lucasfilm in October 2012, all plans were halted regarding these 3D post conversions. Hopefully, these plans will never be revived. And speaking of Jar Jar Binks...
