10 Highly Questionable Actions Committed By George Lucas

7. Jar Jar Binks

Do I have to really explain this one? Alright, in case you have devoutly steered clear of the prequels (I commend you!) Jar Jar Binks was a brand new character created by George Lucas who first appeared in Star Wars - Episode I: The Phantom Menace. Not only was he a new character but a heavily featured one at that, popping up in half of the scenes. And man, he has to be one of the most annoying characters in cinematic history.

Jar Jar Binks€™ sole purpose is to provide comic relief to the film...or at least, George Lucas€™ idea of €œcomedy€. So as we watch our heroes navigate through the narrative plot, Jar Jar is on hand to trip over things, make loud noises and overall, just screw things up. The characters find him grotesquely annoying and hey, guess what? So do we! He doesn€™t serve much of a purpose and seems to have been created as a way to appeal to toddlers, the only possible type of humans that could find Jar Jar entertaining.

On top of that, many perceived Jar Jar Binks to be a tad bit racist with many of his mannerisms similar to negative racial stereotypes. The way he talks in the movie is eerily similar to caricatures in the old minstrel shows. Thankfully, George Lucas got the message and cut down Jar Jar€™s role in both Episode II: Attack of the Clones and Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.
