4. Allison Janney
Janney has probably received the most accolades for her role as C.J. Cregg in The West Wing, performances which garnered her a few Prime Time Emmys and some Golden Globe nominations. Janney, an alumna of New York's Neighborhood Playhouse and the Royal Academy of the Dramatic Arts, originally got her start with more lighthearted roles in soaps like As the World Turns and Guiding Light. Her transition into movies saw more serious roles, and when she was cast as C.J. Cregg in The West Wing, that cemented her as a "serious" actress. After all this dramatic success, Janney took on a few supporting roles in comedies: the stepmom in Juno, Peach from Finding Nemo, and Prudy Pingleton in Hairspray. Again, further proof that the best dramatic actresses make the best comedic ones. We're still waiting for her to get top billing in a comedy movie, though. Maybe she and Sandra Bullock should do one together. "She snarks. She also snarks. They're cops." Or maybe not. For now, we'll have to content ourselves with her role across Anna Faris in "Mom," slated to premiere on CBS in the fall of 2013. Speaking of Anna Faris...
