6. Miami Connection (1987)
Released to zero fanfare and then forgotten for decades, Miami Connection was rediscovered by Drafthouse Films and finally given a real chance this year. And it fully deserved that chance, as this was a movie destined for the midnight crowd. Made entirely at the behest of martial arts instructor / self-help guru Y.K. Kim, the movie is an ode to Tae Kwon Do and friendship. Kim plays the leader of a rock band called Dragon Sound, whose members take it upon themselves to rid the streets of Miami of drug dealing ninjas. Yes, you just read that sentence. This film's astonishing sincerity only makes its incompetence all the more charming. http://youtu.be/pGjaKjXiAGw
