10 Hilariously Awful Cry-Faces That Ruined Moving Scenes

5. Toby Maguire - Spiderman

Superheroes in general are a moody bunch, but never has anyone sniveled so much in spandex as this particular incarnation of the Web Head, played far too emotionally by Tobey Maguire. Now, there are scores of scenes that were ruined by Maguire's endless sobbing and rubber-faced mugging, but one which towers over the rest occurs in the first film where Maguire's clueless nerd stumbles across his dying Uncle Ben after testing his new Spider-mettle in a wrestling match. To be fair, this scene is probably more detrimental when viewed in the present day. At the time nobody knew how frequently the tears would be rolling for Maguire's Peter Parker; we all figured that it was a one time display of emotional weakness at a crucial point in his origin. How wrong we were. But then, even twelve years ago this cry-face felt a tad ridiculous, especially with the tear drops that look strategically placed, and with his features taking on an even dopier appearance than before. It set the mold for what would gratingly become the actor's trademark as the series progressed.
