8. Real Genius
By sheer title alone a shoo-in for the most ironic DVD cover of all time, the actually pretty decent 1985 Val Kilmer comedy Real Genius is done no justice whatsoever with this
horrible DVD cover, which makes the film seem more like a mad scientist B-movie, what with the obligatory fireball background, and the cheaper than chips electricity effects Photoshopped onto Kilmer's face. Meanwhile, I suspect that Kilmer has had some work done; the pallid complexion looks a little unnatural, as though it's been painted for no reason whatsoever. In addition to all this, the logo looks derivative and dull, and including a quote at the bottom noting the film's satirical aspects seems like a last-ditch effort to make the film look good in contrast to how utterly, irredeemably awful this cover otherwise is. Val must cringe if he ever sees it.
