10 Hilariously Awful Pieces Of Movie Merchandise

9. Monolith Action Figure (2001: A Space Odyssey)

Again, this one seems to be played for laughs given that it's manufactured by ThinkGeek, who pride themselves on facetious, geeky apparel. While the Monolith, the alien technology that appears throughout Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey, is arguably the most important aspect of the film given how it nudges human advancement along, it doesn't exactly make for the most enthralling play-thing. After all, what does the Monolith do in the films other than sit there? Kubrick never shows it moving or even computing something; it's just a black slab, and that, I suppose is the point here. It apparently began as a joke on the Internet, and the enterprising folks at ThinkGeek decided to make it a reality. The box amusingly boasts that it has "zero points of articulation", and comes in three variations which, of course, all look exactly the same. For a whopping $12.99, I think you'll agree that it's a steal, but would the notoriously chilly Kubrick have seen the funny side were he still around?
