7. Liar Liar Is "Ace Big Liar" In China

1994 was the year that launched Jim Carrey onto the Hollywood A-list. The Canadian had a banner year, scoring hits with Dumb And Dumber, The Mask and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, all of which showcased his rubber-faced, stream-of-consciousness comedic stylings.

We have to assume that the latter was a huge hit given that the word "ace" has made into the Chinese titles for almost every subsequent Jim Carrey comedy. Clearly the Chinese just really want him to be Ace Ventura all the time.

As such, the Chinese title for Liar Liar translates to "Ace Big Liar" (surely plain "Big Liar" would have sufficed?) even though the movie has no connection to Ace Ventura aside from its star. The trend continued with Bruce Almighty, called "Ace God" in China. So if you're ever feeling glum about the fact that only two Ace Ventura movies exist, go to China - it's a full blown franchise over there.
