10 Historical Revenge Fantasies That Quentin Tarantino Could Tackle Instead Of The Hateful Eight
3. Depression Era Gangsters - Pretty Boy Floyd (1925-1932)
This is the only entry on the list that Tarantino himself talked about possibly doing. As soon as "gangster" and "Tarantino" were uttered in the same breath, everyone was on board and wanted to see what he would do with this subject. The time period has been recently covered in films like Public Enemies, Lawless and Gangster Squad but none of those films had much success. Instead of fighting with Gawker, Tarantino might as well vent out his rage creatively and do the time period justice by re-writing some entertaining history for the gangsters who ruled the midwest. The bank robber Pretty Boy Floyd, who ended up getting gunned down by cops in 1932 and was endlessly prosecuted by the FBI, is the example Tarantino himself cited. Despite his criminal lifestyle, Floyd has been glorified in culture and seen as a victim of hard times which would make him fit perfectly in Tarantino's universe. With his proclivity for strong female characters, a fantastical scenario could revolve around a woman who gets brutalized after her coward husband fails to pay off a local mobster. Floyd saves her from the attackers, but not before she kills one of them in the process. Combining Floyd's battles against Truman's FBI with her thirst for personal revenge could make for a signature Tarantino romantic fairytale.
