10 Hollywood Remakes Of Foreign Language Movies That Actually Didn't Suck

9. The Ring

Gore Verbinski's iconic horror The Ring is one of the quintessential horror movies of the early 2000s, perhaps even of all time.

Not only was it a well received remake of the Japanese 1998 original, but it kickstarted the trend of American remakes of Asian horror films (for better or for worse). It also started an incredibly successful franchise in North American horror releases (again, for better or for worse, as looking at 2017's Rings' Rotten Tomatoes score of 8% makes clear).

1998's Ring was immensely successful in its native Japan, and its remake in the West helped bring attention to the quality of the original as well as establishing its own success in foreign markets.

Both versions of the film are heralded as some of the best horror movies of all time.

Chances are I’m watching a movie or replaying Mass Effect rather than doing anything productive.
