10 Hollywood Remakes Of Foreign Language Movies That Actually Didn't Suck

8. Some Like It Hot

One of Marilyn Monroe's most iconic roles and a later title in director Billy Wilder's impressive filmography full of classics, what many don't know is that the screenplay of 1959's Some Like It Hot was based on a West German film called Fanfares of Love from 1951.

What makes this one even more interesting is that the 1951 film itself is a remake of a French film called Fanfare of Love from 1935, but Wilder was made familiar with the German production instead of its original.

So in this case, Some Like it Hot is technically a double remake; it's adapted from a German screenplay, which in turn was adapted from a French screenplay.

Unlike many of the films on this list, due to their early release dates, the two original films are little-known outside of their native countries of the time. Some Like it Hot, on the other hand, has truly stood the test of time.

Chances are I’m watching a movie or replaying Mass Effect rather than doing anything productive.
