10 Hollywood Stars That Let Instant Success Go To Their Heads

5. George Lazenby

Early Success: George Lazenby was an Australian model when talent scouts picked him up as the perfect replacement for iconic but departing James Bond star, Sean Connery. Plucked from relative obscurity, and with no theatrical training, Lazenby would soon be starring as one of film's most iconic heroes in On Her Majesty's Secret Service. What Happened Next? Lazenby took the part a little too seriously and essentially became a real-life Bond€ and a bit of a prat. Picking up girls, drinking martinis (seriously) and squandering away cash on fast cars, he even started visiting the same barber as Sean Connery in order to get that authentic look. The general consensus is that Lazenby was an underrated Bond who should really have spent more time in the role €“ Roger Moore placed himself behind Lazenby when asked to rank the 007s €“ but his madcap behaviour harmed his personal life and he soon quit, producer Albert Broccoli describing him as €˜arrogant€™ in a later interview. It seems Lazenby allowed an ego caused by his meteoric rise to destroy a promising career. By the time he returned to acting in the mid-70s the boat had sailed.
