10 Hollywood Stars That Let Instant Success Go To Their Heads
4. Micheal Cimino
Early Success: Cimino had massive success with only the second picture he directed, The Deer Hunter. Starring Robert De Niro, the film became iconic for its brutal Russian Routlette scene and anti-Vietnam message. The 1978 film swept the board at the Oscars, securing Best Picture and Best Director for Cimino. As producer, director and co-writer on one of the greatest films ever made, he was considered an all-time great before hed got even started. What Happened Next? Cimino essentially became a bully and a big head. Buoyed by his success, and with United Artists more than happy to give him total creative control over whichever project he desired, Ciminos next move was to pitch Heavens Gate, an American epic which was to chronicle the Johnson County War of 1890. Starring Kris Kristofferson, Chris Walken and John Hurt, it looked destined for big things. Unfortunately, this was not the case. The movie was continually delayed due to budget problems, and the actors were dogged by Ciminos aggressive, overbearing directorial style, with many on-set stories from actors about his misbehaviour. His attempt at making the greatest film in the history of cinema didn't quite pay off. In fact, it did so badly at the box office it nearly bankrupted the studio.
