10 Home Invasion Movies Where The Invader Is The Victim

6. Us (2019)

Jordan Peele's second feature film may also be his best, as he establishes a creepy and largely unexplained series of events from the outset, leading with a family holiday gone very wrong. A family of dark doppelgangers attack Adelaide Wilson (Lupita Nyong'o) and her family's holiday home and hold them hostage, reflecting primal qualities of each Wilson and exerting their will by force under the direction of matriarch Red (also Lupita Nyong'o).

However, a few twists and a lot of running reveal that all is not quite as it seems, and Adelaide's double, Red, is in fact the victim in all of this. When Adelaide was a child, she first encountered the Tethered (the doppelgangers), a genetic experiment designed by the government to control the populace, who were ultimately abandoned and left underground. It was during this fateful encounter that her own doppelganger - the real Red - switched places with her and left her counterpart to rot in the Tethered's literal underworld.

So, really, it's not just the original Adelaide who is the victim in Us. All of the Tethered are. Stuck underground subsisting on raw rabbit food, mimicking the lives of their above-ground counterparts, they are unable to break free from their conditioning and seek their own destinies. It's like social commentary or something!
