10 Horrendously Inaccurate Depictions Of Technology In Movies

3. Computer Security - Demolition Man

Demolition Man Though this is quite a common mis-step with technological depictions, few are as blatant and hilarious as the satirical sci-fi Demolition Man. Wesley Snipes' villain Simon Phoenix approaches a computer terminal with the police hot on his trail, and when a cop approaches while staying close to the wall, Phoenix attempts to activate the anti-graffiti measure which delivers a blast of electricity to the wall. The system knows that the cop is there, so refuses, causing Phoenix to very simply initiate a system override. He simply types a string of dashes, underscores and number 7s, and Bob's your uncle, the cop is promptly shocked to death. It's not so much the implausibility of Phoenix typing the code that's a gripe, but that there's an override code in the first place; would there not just be a log-in function for police officers to shut down or activate the wall?
