10 Horrific Acts Of Child Abuse By Useless Movie Parents

8. Jack Torrance - The Shining

Jack Nicholson's Jack Torrance is a recovering alcoholic (check one) who suffers from anger control issues (check two), and, you guessed it, is an abusive father towards his son, Danny (check three). While planning to work on his next novel, he ups and moves his wife and son to a remote hotel for the winter, where all he has to do is act as a custodian for the place. However, there are of course supernatural forces at work, and soon enough the evil begins to take hold of Jack, who lashes out violently against both his wife and young Danny. This reaches its abusive apex at the end of the film, when Jack chases after the pair with an axe, while Danny flees in terror into an icy garden maze. Jack eventually freezes to death there, so I suppose it could have been worse; he could have actually killed Danny.
