10 Horrific Horror Movie Scenes You Can’t Unsee
9. Hostel 2 - Bathory Blood Bath
Eli Roth’s Hostel 2 really wasn’t a good follow-up to the original, but that being said, Hostel wasn’t paraded as a great film either. Hostel cut its teeth as a film that signaled that new wave of horror film mentioned previously - ‘torture porn’ - that exists only to titillate viewers with scenes of flat and underwhelming characters dying in incredibly gruesome ways.
Although Hostel had that distinction going for it, Hostel 2 was just a bland re-tread of the original. However, Hostel 2 had one particular scene that beat out the first movie in terms of shock and gore.
In an ode to the real-life Countess Elizabeth Bathory, Hostel 2 has a scene where one of the unfortunate victims, strung upside-down above a bath, has her throat slit, and the villainess murderer lying below her bathes in the blood as it showers down upon her.
It’s a grotesque scene so horrific that Eli Roth decided to place a still from that particular scene on the front of the DVD box to help sell the movie. It was so controversial that, in the United Kingdom, Hostel 2 was presented as an example of a film where possessing stills of the movie could be illegal, thanks to the horrific scenes displayed, and none more horrific than Eli Roth’s homage to Ms. Bathory.
