10 Horror Anthologies You Must See Before You Die
7. Creepshow
The quintessential movie from the 80s heyday of the horror anthology, Creepshow is a collaboration from two of the biggest horror talents known to mankind – late, great Night of the Living Dead director George A. Romero and writer Stephen King.
The movie’s five main stories feature a whole host of familiar faces including Leslie Nielsen, Ed Harris, Ted Danson and Stephen King himself in his non-cameo acting debut as they come up against such ghoulish things as reanimated murder victims, alien plant-life and a horde of cockroaches.
As a homage to the horror comics Romero and Kings used to read in their misspent youths, Creepshow is both creepy (clue’s in the title) and funny with cartoonishly gruesome effects from Tom Savini completing its comic book feel.
Fun fact: the young lad in Creepshow’s wraparound story about a comic book-obsessed kid who gets revenge on his abusive dad is none other than Stephen King’s son Joe King better known today by his pen name Joe Hill.
Standout Segment:
Props to ‘Something to Tide You Over’ in which a married man comes up with an ingenious, horrifying and watery way to off his cheating wife and her lover. Naturally, this backfires on him because this is horror and dead wives and their lovers don’t stay dead for long.
