10 Horror Anthologies You Must See Before You Die

8. Tales From The Crypt

Not to be confused with the HBO TV show that aired during the 90s (although they are both based on the 1950s EC horror comics of the same name), Tales from the Crypt is a 1972 anthology from British film company Amicus Productions.

During the 60s and 70s Amicus was at the forefront of the horror anthology genre churning out such films as Dr Terror’s House of Horrors, The House That Dripped Blood and Asylum. Tales of the Crypt, however, is probably Amicus’ best offering.

In it, a group of strangers on a tour of some catacombs come across a mad old crypt keeper dude who proceeds to foretell their various deaths. While any normal person would demand a refund from their tour guide, these people sit down and lap it up as five tales unfold involving a serial killer Santa Claus, a cursed Chinese curio and a man stuck in an infinite death loop.

Being a product of the 1970s it’s an undeniably camp affair but nevertheless a creepy classic that weaves some spooky little yarns and features familiar faces including Joan Collins and Peter Cushing.

Standout Segment:

Joan Collins heads the best segment ‘…And All Through the House’ as a housewife who murders her husband on Christmas Eve only to be stalked by a homicidal maniac on the loose from the local asylum and dressed as Santa Claus. Festive frights all round.
