The 2006 dark and creepy film, The Black Dhalia, was directed by Brian De Palma and starred Josh Hartnett, Scarlett Johansson and Hilary Swank. The film met mixed reviews upon release, however it has certainly found an audience who has come to love the movie which details certain events that have occurred in real life.

The film is based on the novel by James Ellroy and touches upon the true-life murder of Elizabeth Short - a crime which, to this day, has never been solved. Although the film certainly takes a detour and adds some fictional drama into the mix, the frightening case of Elizabeth Short is the foundation for the movie.

Elizabeth Short was a 22 year old woman who was found chopped in half and with her face slashed in 1947. The case sent a shiver down the nation and globally, and it yet it was never solved. It remains one of the most chilling and creepy cases of all time, and the 2006 movie uses the account as a catalyst for the production.
