10 Horror Films That Exist Purely To Shock And Disgust

6. I Spit On Your Grave 2 (2013)

Steven R. Monroe€™s 2010 remake of the enduring 1978 cult hit I Spit On Your Grave was surprisingly strong, so it€™s disappointing that this sequel should prove exactly the kind of bottom-feeding exploitation trash one expected the last time around. The film begins promisingly enough. Our heroine Katie (Jemma Dallender), an aspiring model living in New York, is poised, hard-working and, above all, resourceful. She does go to a "free" photo shoot by herself, but otherwise she makes smart decisions €” high-tailing it out of there when the photographer (Joe Absolom) suggests she pose nude as some kind of repayment. There is a sense of dread that hangs over these early scenes, but it's not until later that the shutterbug's brother Georgy (Yavor Baharoff) slips into her apartment and attacks her there. In the ensuing cleanup, she gets shipped off to Bulgaria where the obligatory rape and torture scenes commence. I Spit On Your Grave 2 is torture porn done horribly wrong. Unlike Saw or Eli Roth's Hostel, this film doesn't necessarily focus on unique kills or attempt to build tension. Rather, we are simply forced to watch one individual girl get raped, electrocuted, pissed on - and any other horrific act you can think of - for over a hour before she finally gets her "revenge." Perhaps it€™s time for women to be empowered without being brutally, maliciously, and soullessly raped on-screen. We can do that, right?
