10 Horror Films That Exist Purely To Shock And Disgust
5. Seed (2006)
Based on an incident that allegedly took place in Seattle, WA, back in 1972, director Uwe Boll's Seed tells the twisted tale of a mass murderer who was buried alive after surviving the electric chair, and claws his way back to the surface in search of bloody revenge. Seed sets the tone for the film right from the very beginning. It opens with a warning that they have used real life footage of animal cruelty (and its excuse is "to make a statement about humanity). We then cut to our serial killer, Seed, watching said footage. This includes whimpering foxes being skinned alive and beaten, baby seals being clubbed, and dogs getting their skulls crushed in by big men with very heavy boots. Boll spends the rest of the film wielding his HD camera like a high school girl with Parkinson's. The subsequent scenes are mostly hand-held and amazingly under-edited. A woman gets her head bashed in with a hammer in an endless sequence, just for the fun and shock value of it. A prolonged hatchet attack on an elderly woman is perhaps the film's most nauseating moment. And that's just the tip of the bloody iceberg! This is it no message, no plot, no rhyme or reason. Gore and nastiness are plentiful, but theyre just painfully gratuitous rather than truly shocking.
