9. Joy Ride
Continuing with the comedy-horror theme, weve got the tale of a CB radio prank gone horribly wrong. There was a stretch there, about a decade ago, where Steve Zahn cracked me up in role after role, and this film seems like a showcase for his comedic asides. With Zahn partnered with Paul Walker, this film is again a road trip movie, but instead of battle zombies along the way, they are dealing with a crazy trucker, Rusty Nail (voiced over the radio by The Silence of the Lambs killer himself, Ted Levine). Again, my enjoyment of this film has almost nothing to do with the somewhat ridiculous, but still somewhat scary plot of a murderous truck driver, and almost everything to do with the fact that until the climax, Paul and Steve spend most of the film proving they have the rapport to be an effective comedy duo. As an added bonus, I now have a fervent respect for (fear of?) CB radios. It will be a while before I swim in those waters again.
