5. Shaun of the Dead
How about one more comedy/horror entry? I was either going to stick Shaun of the Dead or Tucker and Dale Versus Evil here, but since I enjoyed the former more, I am going with the Simon Pegg and Nick Frost vehicle. Certainly zombies can be scary, but as evidenced by two films on this list and many others, they can also be funny. For the most part, zombies are depicted as slow-moving and rather brainlesscharacteristics that make them ripe for mocking. And Edgar Wrights film does that perfectly. In fact, if anything I wish it stuck more fully in that territory and didnt feel the need to conform to the more traditional horror climax scenes. But at least they provide us with an amusing denouement. Again, I cant imagine horror junkies wont be satisfied by this flick as there is plenty of disgusting looking zombies trying to kill and eat the protagonists. And for the rest of us, we get to appreciate perfect British wit without having to then sleep with the light on.
