10 Horror Films Much Weirder Than You Remember

2. Friday The 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan

Pet Sematary Zelda
Paramount

Jason Takes Manhattan is regularly rated among the worst entries in the Friday the 13th franchise. The scares are non-existent, the pacing is slow, and the characters are one-note. Most importantly, the title is a bare-faced lie, since the machete-wielding zombie is only in the Big Apple during the last 15 minutes. (It should've been called Jason Spends Half the Movie on a Barge.)

Although horror lovers should remember how awful this instalment is, they might have forgotten how surreal it gets. On multiple occasions, our Final Girl, Rennie, has visions of Jason Voorhees as a child.

At least... it's supposed to be Jason. Even though Jason has been bald and deformed since childhood, this kid looks completely normal... but not always. Sometimes, he has hair, other times he doesn't. He looks completely normal in one scene, but grotesque in another.

But why does Rennie have a telepathic bond with Jason in the first place? Does she have psychic powers? Is she related to him? Did she see Jason seemingly drown when he was a child?

Unfortunately, these questions can't be answered, since this subplot is never explained.
