Possessed doll Annabelle was first introduced in The Conjuring, and Warner Bros. rightly realised they could spin the character off into her own movie franchise, which to date has been a firm commercial success.

But let's face it, we all wish the Annabelle films were Child's Play, right?

When an Annabelle film was first announced, most assumed that the possessed doll would come to life and start murdering those in her vicinity, and so many were disappointed that this wasn't the case.

Instead, we never actually see Annabelle move or be animated in any way whatsoever: she's simply the means through which a bunch of generic supernatural hooey takes place.

Though having the doll actually move around certainly risked upending the movie's tone, something fun and self-aware along the lines of Child's Play will always be preferable to the formulaic sludge we ended up with.

The sequel, Annabelle Comes Home, was a sure improvement, but even then, the lack of a killer doll rampaging around felt like a colossal missed opportunity.
