10 Horror Films That Wasted Their Villain

8. The Newborn - Alien Resurrection

The Bye Bye Man
Fox

Alien Resurrection may feel like a glorified Alien fanfic at the best of times, but the concept of a human-Xenomorph hybrid as the film's primary antagonist wasn't an inherently bad one.

The creature, dubbed the Newborn, had its eerie promise figuratively sucked into space per the horrendous practical effects, and in the film's climax, the abomination was literally sucked into space.

The Newborn's unique relationship with Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) - who it views as its "mother" - is plenty unsettling, but the terrible technical execution of the creature fatally undermines its scary potential.

The earlier concept designs for the Newborn were also far more interesting than the generic goblin-like mess we ended up with.

Granted the Newborn is a bit of a tragic figure itself, an monstrosity that never asked to be created, but for what is still supposed to be the film's bigger, better evolution of the Xenomorph, it ends up being a bit laughable and pathetic.
