10 Horror Films Where Only One Person Dies
7. He's Out There (2018)
Here's a question for you, how do you follow all the troupes of a slasher film without actually showing any slashing? That seems impossible, right? Well, my friends, you need to see 2018's He's Out There.
He's Out There follows a young mother and her two daughters as they arrive at an isolated woodland cabin on vacation. Unfortunately a former resident still stalks the woodland, desperate for a loving family life at any cost.
To describe this film as clever would be an understatement, He's Out There has balls. It follows every single slasher movie trope except delivering on the high body count. The only death scene occurs over half-way into the proceedings and is very brief.
Yet He's Out There still manages to extend the merciless stalking and cat and mouse games of slasher cinema to fill out the runtime without becoming stale or repetitive. Strong, intelligent characters keep the stakes high and full of surprises and a chillingly cunning, yet child-like killer is a constant looming threat.
Add to this an eerie fog-shrouded woodland setting and you have a neat little flick that manages to stand out from other slasher fare. The viewer completely forgets about the lack of bloodshed as we will this lovable young family to survive.
