10 Horror Films Where Only One Person Dies
6. The Blair Witch Project (1999)
Does anyone even actually DIE in The Blair Witch Project...?
The question has been debated for decades. The great and unique thing about the film is that is is so open to interpretation. Whether one person dies or no one dies, the film makes this list for the strength it exhibits throughout.
Here, we are going on the assumption that Josh, the first to disappear, did in fact bite the dust. The proof of this being Heather's grisly discovery of Josh's blood-soaked shirt and teeth. But even if this is not the case, as Josh's cries are later heard, the strength of the film as a whole is the reason for its inclusion here.
The Blair Witch Project shows absolutely no on-screen violence or death and is regarded as revolutionary in horror cinema. The filmmakers managed to capture true fear, growing insanity and an undeniable eeriness and sense of dread with some very inventive production methods.
All of this held audiences spellbound at the film's gritty reality as we become so invested in the characters involved. Some incredible performances and an ever present sense of doom make us completely forget about gore or a body count. Perhaps this is why The Blair Witch Project has endured so strong throughout the years.
