The Friday the 13th series has been in limbo for years due to the legal issues surrounding it. Despite plans of doing a sequel to the 2009 remake, the franchise was put on hold and has not received a new entry.

Though there has been a drought of Friday the 13th movies, the iconic Jason Voorhees bid his time through numerous appearances in video games. He was a guest fighter in Mortal Kombat X and even had his own multiplayer title which was released in 2017.

For movie fans, however, it seems that the legal battle has been resolved, as seen in New Line Cinema's cryptic Instagram post this past September. The studio posted a fake screenshot with a message that said 'Jason Voorhees wants to send you a message.' At the same time, series veteran Sean Cunningham teased that a new film will be coming in 2023.

Though no news yet on whether the project will be a straight-up remake or a soft reboot, the return of Friday the 13th is finally on the horizon. As icons like Michael Myers have returned in recent years, Jason has earned his well-deserved comeback.
