10 Horror Films You Didn't Know Were Being Remade

8. The Wolfman

Universal Classic Monsters was a series of films that were released from the 1930s to the '50s. From Dracula, The Mummy, Frankenstein, The Wolfman, and Creature from the Black Lagoon, these movies were a precursor to today's cinematic universes. In fact, Universal Studios realized this and tried to do something similar in the 2010s.

While it may be a distant memory now, the Dark Universe was the studio's attempt at replicating the success of the MCU. They had multiple stars lined up, from Johnny Depp as the Invisible Man, to Javier Bardem as Frankenstein's Monster, but the reception of Tom Cruise's The Mummy led to the studio halting plans and taking a different approach.

Take two would be seen in 2020 with Leigh Whannel's The Invisible Man remake which modernized the original movie and was a standalone story. It became such a success that Universal will continue this approach with the remake of The Wolfman.

The film will star Ryan Gosling in the title role and will be directed by Derek Cianfrance, who had previously worked with the actor in The Place Beyond The Pines. Though the project was announced years ago, Gosling recently gave an update that The Wolfman is still pushing through.
