In the divisive Cube sequel, protagonist Kate Filmore (Kari Matchett) is shown to be both empathetic and badass - keen to help others but also extremely capable of defending herself.

And so, it's little surprise that she's the only member of the group to escape the hypercube alive. 

Granted, the final scene does imply that Kate was working with the shady company behind the cube, Izon, all along to retrieve a necklace from it, and so had quite the advantage here.

But despite doing everything right to exit the cube, Kate is rewarded for her efforts by being swiftly shot in the back of the head by an Izon soldier after handing over the necklace.

Perhaps she could've held onto the necklace a little while longer, but after completing her mission and safely escaping the cube, it's tough to blame Kate for letting her guard down a teensy bit.
