10 Horror Movie Characters Who Died (But Survived The Remake)

2. Lucie Jurin - Martyrs

In the 2008 Martyrs, Morjana Alaoui's Anna is largely the main focus of the picture, with Mylène Jampanoï's Lucie Jurin committing suicide early on as the film establishes its premise and stakes.

For the 2015 remake of Martyrs, not only does Lucie not take her own life, she ends up becoming the lead character.

Plot-wise, both versions of Martyrs centre on two young women who became best friends in an orphanage. With Lucie a victim of horrendous abuse as a child, she takes Anna to a family home - where she proceeds to kill the entire family, with it revealed how these people had held her hostage as a youngster.

Shortly after this, the 2008 picture has Lucie commit suicide. From there, Anna is captured by a group looking to make her a "martyr" by pushing her mentally and physically as close to death as possible in the hope this gives them an insight into the afterlife.

Where the remake is concerned, Lucie doesn't kill herself after slaughtering the aforementioned family. More than that, the Lucie character then takes over so much of the Anna-driven parts of the original film. It's Lucie who's made into a "martyr" - as in, tortured and skinned - and Anna is on a mission to save her.

By the time the 2015 movie closes, the fate of both Lucie and Anna is left ambiguous. Sure, both likely did end up dying, but Lucie for sure lasted a whole lot longer than in the '08 film.
