In the case of The Human Centipede (First Sequence), there's being alive and then there's living, because while Lindsay (Ashley C. Williams) is still breathing when the end credits roll, it's save to say she's still stuck in one hell of a predicament.

Lindsay is drugged and kidnapped by the evil Dr. Heiter (Dieter Laser) and inserted into the grotesque titular experiment, where she and two other poor saps are sewn together, ass-to-mouth, such that they share a single digestive tract.

Lindsay, for trying to escape, has to suffer the worst of it, being made the middle part of the centipede, meaning that her mouth is sewn to the ass of Katsuro (Akihiro Kitamura) in the front, and her ass is sewn to the mouth of her friend Jenny (Ashlynn Yennie) at the back.

While Katsuro and Jenny "only" have to participate in one foul step of the centipede each, Lindsay as the middle has to take part in two.

But worse still, she's the last person standing at film's end: Katsuro commits suicide, Jenny succumbs to sepsis, and even Dr. Heiter is shot by a cop, who himself also dies.

And so, the film ends with Lindsay stuck in the human centipede, yet still very much alive.

Her fate from this point remains a mystery: even if she's discovered in time, the delicacy required to untether her from the centipede without further injury speaks for itself, not to mention the growing possibility of infection every second she's continually bound to two corpses.

But hey, the last time we see her she's still alive and kicking, so it totally counts.
