10 Horror Movie Characters Who Totally NOPED OUT

7. Marty - Poltergeist (1982)

Paranormal Activity
MGM

Poltergeist's Dr. Marty Casey (Martin Casella) witnesses enough inexplicable horror during his brief tenure in the movie that he doesn't need much additional convincing to high-tail it.

In the span of around 10 minutes of screen time, Casey gets bitten by the entity, sees the food he's snacking on become infested with maggots, hallucinates his face grotesquely melting off his skull, and encounters an angelic apparition.

And so, barely half-way through the movie, just as the Freelings send their children away for their own safety, Marty's colleague Martha (Beatrice Straight) tells Diane (JoBeth Williams) that the thoroughly traumatised Marty won't be coming back.

And can you blame the guy? Dude's mental health was evidently in the toilet after being horrifically trolled by a poltergeist four times over the course of a single night. You've gotta look after yourself first, and let's face it, Marty was clearly in no mental state to help anyone else at that point.
