10 Horror Movie Characters Who Totally NOPED OUT

3. Paul - Fresh

Thankfully the whole "Black guy dies first" horror movie trope is basically dead in a ditch these days, as is perhaps best evidenced by last year's savage horror Fresh.

The film's most memorable supporting character is surely Paul (Dayo Okeniyi), a bartender friend of Mollie (Jonica T. Gibbs), who helps investigate the disappearance of Mollie's best pal Noa (Daisy Edgar-Jones).

For most of the movie, we're led to believe that Paul will end up rescuing Noa and Mollie from the psychopathic cannibal Brendan (Sebastian Stan), but when he finally turns up at Brendan's compound in the final 10 minutes, his stay is hilariously short-lived.

Within moments of arriving, Paul hears Brendan firing his gun at the ladies, to which an alarmed Paul says, "Naw, f**k this s**t," gets in his car, and drives the hell out of there, leaving the women to fend Brendan off themselves.

When you're on your own in the middle of the night near a creepy, remote house, is there really any other option when you hear gunshots and a guy angrily shouting?

In that moment, he did what 99.8% of people watching would've done, and that's tremendously satisfying. Plus, in a movie so clearly about misogyny and female agency, it would've been super disappointing if they were saved by a man.
