10 Horror Movie Characters Who Went Through Hell (Then Died Anyway)

8. Happy Hunting

Drag Me To Hell
Vertical Entertainment

Released in 2016, Happy Hunting is an intense and gritty horror western mashup which deserved more critical acclaim upon arrival. This grimy psychological thriller is reminiscent of Jeremy Saulnier’s blackly comic Green Room and Blue Ruin.

The film’s plot follows an alcoholic veteran who attempts to track down his estranged daughter after learning of her mother’s death. In the process he opts to rob his meth-making associates, and is soon followed into a gated community where he seeks refuge from the gang.

Big mistake.

Soon, our hero is not only pursued by this gang, but also caught up in a sick, life-or-death game of tag. See, the well-to-do inhabitants of this exclusive community have an annual ritual of good old-fashioned human hunting.

After surviving the group of sadistic hunters who are after him and managing to off his gangster former co-workers in the process, our battered, brutalized hero finally makes it across the border and to freedom.

Where he is promptly shot and killed by a separate, unrelated, and until now unseen gang.
