10 Horror Movie Characters Who Were SECONDS Away From Dying

Zack "Soft Focus" Snyder's Army Of The Dead lines up a new cast of kooky, zombie-hunting characters for something of a spiritual successor to the director's 2004 action horror hit Dawn Of The Dead.

Amongst these is the mononymous MPhil graduate and founding member of the zombie-survivor rescue squad Las Vengeance Vanderohe (Omari Hardwick). He joins Bautista and co. on an ill-fated expedition into Las Vegas ostensibly to retrieve $200 million before a nuke wipes the city off the map.

Tough as nails hunk of muscle Vanderohe is one of the very few who make it out of the city alive, but it almost wasn't so.

Trapped in the casino's lower levels with his new best buddy Dieter (Matthias Schweighöfer), Vanderohe valiantly takes on the super-powered alpha zombie Zeus. Beaten within an inch of his life, he is just about to become zombie food when Dieter takes a swing at the big guy and distracts him long enough to haul Vanderohe into the casino's 'uncrackable' Hans Wagner vault.

Dieter is dragged away by the alpha, the vault door seals, and that is the end of that. Well, almost.

Towards the film's conclusion – long after we have given him up as a lost cause – Vanderohe hauls himself out of the vault, having survived not only the zombie horde, but the nuclear bombing of Vegas. Dieter, however, was not so lucky.
