10 Horror Movie Characters You Couldn't Wait To See Die
Maybe it's okay to root for the monster sometimes?
When watching a horror movie, you pretty much have to accept going in that you're going to watch some people get brutally annihilated by some twisted creature or psycho ax murderer. To do otherwise would be like complaining about the lack of can-can dancing in Avengers: Endgame. Sure, it'd be nice, but you're setting yourself up for disappointment expecting that.
Horror movies deal with this acceptance in one of two ways. They either make the characters as sympathetic as possible to ratchet up the horror as the audience suddenly WANTS to see these half-naked college kids stranded in the woods survive their ordeal, or they make the characters so horrible that you're on the edge of your seat begging the movie to put a chainsaw in their cranium.
These horror movie characters, whether they be victims or villains, are the most scummy human beings in the genre, whom you just cannot wait to see die a horrible horrible death.
10. Wooley - Dawn Of The Dead
The one singular upside to the world going to hell in a decorative handbasket via zombie plague is that suddenly those pesky rules society implements are out the window. So if someone is ticking you off, you don't have to worry about silly things like laws and courts and jail when you decide to put hot lead between their eyes.
Dawn Of The Dead is a classic for many reasons, but a big mark in its favor is the fact that it gets going IMMEDIATELY. Right off the bat, we're treated to the zombies overwhelming an impoverished neighborhood and a squad of cops being sent in to contain it. Naturally, the cops send in their best, most coolheaded men who know the difference between the walking dead and the running living and who will make sure to - nope, I can't even finish that sentence. Of course, the cops are a bunch of meathead losers who are chomping at the bit to shoot some poor people.
Representing them is Wooley, a violently racist psycho even by these brain trusts' standards. Not even on screen for 20 minutes, but the audience hates him every second. So of course Romero has one of the cops get tired of his schtick, and shoot him in the head, leaving his corpse for the zombies.
