10 Horror Movie Franchises That Never Seem To End

Credited as one of the early horrors that started the slasher craze (also helped by Black Christmas and TCM of course), Halloween is also one of the longest running horror franchises in history. Starting with humble beginnings in 1978, Halloween received another sequel in 2018, also called Halloween, which made a nice bit of bank at the box office.

Prior to 2018 though, the original Halloween was followed by seven sequels of varying quality (The less said about Halloween 6, the better). These would run up to 2002 with Halloween: Resurrection. Following that, Rob Zombie's reboot and sequel took us to 2009, and seemingly the franchise was dead.

Then, from the most unexpected of sources, David Gordon Green and Danny McBride teamed up with producers Jason Blum and Malek Akkad to bring another Halloween movie that would act as a direct sequel to the first film. The 2018 movie became a massive hit, and the highest grossing movie in the series, and you can guess what happened next... two more Halloween films are now scheduled to be released in 2021 and 2022 respectively.

So Michael Myers will be stabbing his way through Haddonfield for two more films at least, and by the time Halloween Ends is released that will be thirteen films in the bank. The end might be in sight, but will that actually be THE end? Don't count on it.
