10 Horror Movie Franchises That Stupidly Killed Off Their Best Character

1. Martin Brody - Jaws: The Revenge

Even though Jaws has a tremendous cast, Martin Brody (Roy Scheider) is the standout. Though the police chief seems like a relatively simple character, Brody became one of the most iconic heroes in movie history, primarily because of Scheider's nuanced performance.

Which begs the question, why was Brody killed off in Jaws: The Revenge? Shortly after this needless sequel opens, it is mentioned that Brody died from a heart attack.

As disappointing as this news is, it gets worse. Rather than leave it at that, his wife Ellen repeatedly emphasises how her husband lived in constant terror of another shark attack, which resulted in his death.

Not only is there no proof of this theory, such a suggestion is deeply insulting to Brody's memory. Brody blew a shark to kingdom come while uttering one of the best one-liners ever. When another great white terrorised Amity Island in Jaws 2, Brody again took it upon himself to kill it.

Because of his actions, Brody is a bonafide hero. For Ellen to say her husband's own fear caused his heart to give out doesn't just dilute his legacy, it destroys it.
