10 Horror Movie Franchises That Stupidly Killed Off Their Best Character

6. Jack W. Forrest Jr. - Maniac Cop 2

Considering Maniac Cop centers around a killer zombie cop, it sounds like a movie that's "so bad, it's good". But despite the goofy premise, Maniac Cop is a solid thriller. It has an intriguing mystery, creative kills, sharp dialogue, and amazing action sequences.

Most importantly, it has the B-movie king himself, Bruce Campbell, playing heroic police officer Jack Forrest. Although Jack is generically written, Campbell's charm makes him entertaining, funny, and most importantly, relatable.

So, when Maniac Cop 2 was announced, fans were excited to see the Evil Dead star return. But to everyone's dismay, Jack kicked the bucket after a baton is rammed through his throat at the 20-minute mark. After that, Detective Sean McKinney (Robert Davi) takes over the case, becoming the new central protagonist.

Robert Davi is a fine lead, but he doesn't have the same likability and pizzazz as Campbell. Although Maniac Cop 2 is arguably better than its predecessor, it would've benefitted with a lot more of the former lead.

And if Campbell stuck around, he could've appeared in Maniac Cop 3, making that dumpster fire a bit more watchable.
