10 Horror Movie Franchises That Went Out With A Whimper

9. Paranormal Activity

There are a couple of reasons why the Paranormal Activity franchise ended in such disappointing fashion.

One major reason, is down to how Jason Blum and Blumhouse went so hard and so public in stating how Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension was to be the final installment in the series. Ahead of that sixth film's release, it was categorically said how The Ghost Dimension would be the last Paranormal Activity movie and would give us all the answers we needed for what had been seen across the franchise and with the ominous Toby.

While having a definitive endpoint is always good, sadly The Ghost Dimension fell a little flat, being surprisingly dull for a picture that was designed to tie up any loose ends. Still, final film means final film, right?

Regardless of prior statements, the PA franchise would be back in 2021 with Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin, an unrelated feature that was largely devoid of any genuine scares. Not helping matters, Next of Kin's release was hindered by the COVID-19 pandemic, robbing the film of a theatrical release and instead quietly dumping it onto the Paramount+ service with minimal fanfare.

Sadly, the final two Paranormal Activity movies are likely the worst in the franchise, being a million miles away from the great first three films or the fairly solid Marked Ones.
