10 Horror Movie Franchises With No Bad Movies

8. Re-Animator

Fear Street Part 2: 1978 Sadie Sink
Empire Pictures

Much like Bruce Campbell wears Ashley J. Williams as a second skin, Jeffrey Combs likewise does the same with Herbert West of the Re-Animator series.

Granted, the Re-Animator trilogy doesn't maintain the same quality seen across the Evil Dead franchise, but there's so much to love about these Brian Yuzna and Stuart Gordon pictures - largely down to the phenomenal work done by Combs across Re-Animator, Bride of Re-Animator, and Beyond Re-Animator.

In these H. P. Lovecraft-inspired movies, Combs' West is an obsessive, unhinged scientist who creates a serum that's able to reanimate dead tissue. The problem is, those things West brings back from the afterlife don't return unaffected. And of course, there are various powers-that-be that push back against West and his work across these three films.

While Jeffrey Combs is the clear star of the show in this trilogy, he's supported excellently by Bruce Abbott, Barbara Crampton, Dave Gale, and Kathleen Kinmont in those first two pictures. As for Beyond Re-Animator, truthfully, that movie really is all about Combs, and it is clearly the weakest of the three features, but it's still not an outright bad movie.

Even though it's now 20 years since the last Re-Animator film, that's not stopped consistent rumblings of there still being a little more juice in the tank for Herbert West and his crazed schemes - not least in the long-rumoured House of Re-Animator, where West would become involved with the President of the United States.
