7. Paranormal Activity
The first Paranormal Activity from 2007 borrowed heavily from The Blair Witch Project with its use of amateur style footage and naturalistic dialogue.
Young couple Katie and Micah set up cameras around their home to try and catch a demon that is terrorising them, only the footage reveals far more than they expected! Spooky!
A minor phenomenon followed the release of the first instalment and the film made absolute bank at the box office. Naturally, this led to a bunch more movies getting made, each one slowly tearing away at the mystique of the original.
The closest in terms of quality and profit was Paranormal Activity 3, which told the story of Katie and her sister Kristi's first encounter with the demon during their childhood.
This was about as interesting as the series got though, as every single film followed the same format to the letter. Over time, audiences slowly got fed up and abandoned the franchise.
Yet another film is coming in 2023. Wow, wonder what this one is going to be about? Perhaps a demon terrorising the inhabitants of a house who capture it all on home video? Where have we heard that before...
